Thomas Akrapay announced a proposal to use part of a one-time $66,000,000 tourism-tax payment to expand Creve Coeur Park Soccer Complex, asking for $6,800,000 to add three turf fields (raising turf from 13 to 16) and $8,000,000 for a new administrative building.
"We're just coming off the World Cup…this is a great opportunity to build on that excitement," Akrapay said, arguing the project fits the tourism tax's purpose. He told the audience the law changing fund distribution does not alter permitted uses: the money remains restricted to convention center and regional tourism purposes. The proposal envisions a building with locker rooms, a classroom for coaching and referee training, and protected workspace for staff who are currently operating from a temporary trailer.
Akrapay said the funds would support scholarships and lower fees to improve access for youth. He described an approximate procurement timeline: an RFP process of about six months followed by roughly a year of construction, for a ballpark 18-month delivery. Akrapay said the county would need to appropriate the funds and that community engagement would follow before any formal county action.
