Council approved a contract to secure licensed remediation specialist services for ongoing depot-area remediation connected to the North Berkeley Rail Trail. A council member said the town needs an LRS to oversee remaining remediation, including preparing reports and land-use covenants, and that some parcels already have certificates of completion while the depot/parking area still requires work.
"This contract is for a budget not to exceed $11,930," a council member said, and the motion to accept the contract was moved and seconded. The motion carried by voice vote. Council members noted the town has budgeted funds for the LRS and that additional charges from the West Virginia Department of Environmental Protection may apply as the work proceeds. Staff also described working with engineering firms to produce a solicitation package and said the town is considering fronting some design costs with later reimbursement from DOH.
