Detective says surveillance video shows fleeing person holding a long object in right hand

Detective Nicholas Thompson of the Beaumont Police Department told jurors he watched multiple surveillance clips from 03/27/2022, slowed and replayed them, and formed the opinion that an individual fleeing the scene was carrying a long object in the right hand.
On the stand Thompson described what he saw on the video and directed the jury's attention to frames where a long object extends from the individual's right hand down toward the foot along the leg. When asked whether the item appeared in the left or right hand, Thompson replied, "The right hand." He also testified that his report links several named individuals to the vehicle and that subsequent investigative work connected some of those people to the recovered long object and later arrests.
The prosecution published the video exhibits for the jury; defense counsel probed the limits of what could be visually ascertained from the footage and challenged direct identification of every person on the clips. Thompson was excused after redirect.
