Electric Boat plans controlled access, fewer public entrances and smaller plaza signs at Crystal Mall

During the Feb. 24 presentation, Electric Boat's team said the company intends to limit and control access to the campus by consolidating public ingress to five primary entrances, securing other doors as egress-only, and monitoring access via EB Security.
Brian Donovan, project manager, explained the security intent: "Their goal is to try to secure the site with these minimal main entries ... so they can control all access too." The team said other doors will remain for emergency egress per code but will be monitored, and that the project is not proposing gates or guardhouses but will create architectural thresholds to signal campus edges.
The presenters also described a signage program that reduces the large Crystal Mall logo signs to ground-based signs with approximately 100 square feet per entrance (about 400 total square feet proposed across the entrances) and said final materials and precise sign dimensions will be developed as part of the zoning process. The applicant noted weekday-focused operations (6 a.m. to 7 p.m. Monday-Friday) with some weekend training possible for the workforce development program.
