Staff reports isolated foodborne-illness inquiry, urges public not to rinse produce with bleach

A staff member told the board they investigated a reported foodborne-illness complaint this week but found the case appeared to be isolated with no links to other cases.
“I had a complaint of a possible foodborne illness, so I did an investigation this week. I didn't find any connections to it. It was isolated incident,” the staff member said, adding that department information and guidance are posted on the health department website.
The staff also cautioned residents against unsafe online advice about cleaning produce. “I always tell you just, don't please don't go rinsing your vegetables and your your your salads items and your bagged items with bleach,” the staff member said, and recommended alternatives such as a vinegar-and-water rinse followed by fresh water.
The staff invited board members to join food inspections on the afternoon of July 29 and said locations would be emailed. No recalls, widespread outbreaks, or enforcement actions were reported at the meeting.
