District presenters announce Greece and Italy student trip for summer 2027; student cost about $5,000

A trip leader described an itinerary that will include Athens and Delphi in Greece and Rome and Florence in Italy and said the program is open districtwide to elementary, middle and high school students. "As of right now, we have 10 people signed up. That is including 2 adult chaperones," the presenter said. The district reported a per‑student cost of about $5,000 and estimated chaperone participation closer to $5,800.
Board members asked whether organizers would partner with other area schools to reach a larger paying group and to avoid being paired with multiple small groups from other schools. The presenter said the tour operator typically combines groups when fewer than about 30 paying participants enroll and that the district had previously been paired with multiple schools when numbers were small.
District staff and the trip leaders said they are pursuing fundraising to reduce costs for families. "We're already actually have some donations coming in, from area businesses," one presenter told the board, and they described possible raffles and other school fundraising. The board did not take a formal vote on the trip at the Oct. 8 meeting; organizers said they will continue recruiting and report back as registrations change.
