Planning board recommends broad LDR text updates, defers golf-course gate change for commission review

City planning staff presented a large fall-round package of Land Development Regulation (LDR) changes covering definitions, use-table corrections, public-neighborhood meeting rules, build-to-line clarifications, fences and gate setbacks, ribbon-driveway and motorcycle-space standards, pool setback clarifications, and other housekeeping items.

"So the highlights of what we're doing, we are adding a definition for accessory storage, clarifying how much of that use area can be considered accessory," Annie Greening, principal planner for the City of Lake Worth Beach, said while walking the board through the major edits. Greening said many edits were intended to correct oversights, make use tables consistent with text, and add clarity for applicants.

Board members raised three line-item clarifications (notably on semi-pervious material edges, fence/gate access to the municipal golf course, and handicap parking aisle language). Several members said the proposed ban on private gates that lead directly to the municipal golf course looked substantive and recommended the item be struck from this package and brought to the City Commission as a separate amendment for broader public review. Staff agreed to reflect the board’s requested clarifications in the staff report to the commission and the board voted to recommend the ordinance 2024-13 with those three modifications.

Staff also noted the upcoming October 2 meeting will include important items and suggested variance training for the board to ensure consistent future decisions.
