Oconee County planning commission adopts eight-session workshop schedule to rewrite ordinances

The Oconee County Planning Commission on July 20 approved an eight-workshop schedule and public information sessions to guide a comprehensive rewrite of county ordinances. Chair (S1) said the workshops are a working forum without final votes and that the process is designed to give staff direction for drafting ordinance language.
Planning staff member Hester (S4) displayed the schedule and described the public outreach plan, saying, "The 1st public information meeting will be July 29 at 2PM ... the 30th is at 6PM," and that a website form will allow written comments. Hester told commissioners that ACOG had provided background material and that she would email the roughly "185 pages" of information to the commission.
The adopted timeline calls for initial workshops starting July 24, continued sessions through September (7th/8th workshops on Sept. 23), an initial review of a fully drafted document on Oct. 5, committee progress updates in October, a Nov. 10 special Planning & Economic Development committee meeting, and a target to meet the Jan. 19 submission deadline for council materials. Hester said each workshop is three hours and that agendas were structured so commissioners could attend one or the other session rather than all.
