Hillsborough to remit $10,363.26 in unclaimed LEAP funds to state agency

City finance staff reported a balance of $10,363.26 in LEAP funds that remain on inactive accounts. Staff said the funds were intended to follow eligible households but could not be applied because accounts were inactive or customers moved; after consulting auditors and program officials at the Kansas Department of Children and Families (DCF), staff recommended returning the money for redistribution.
"So we reached out to DCF...they suggested that we remit that back to the state," staff said. Councilman Jorgensen moved and Councilman Bye seconded a motion to authorize staff to issue a refund payment of $10,363.26 to DCF for reallocation under LEAP. The council voted in favor and the motion carried.
