Resident thanks council for event support and asks exception to inflatable ban

Carol Holmes, introduced during audience participation, thanked council members and city staff for their support of recent community events including Gold Dust Day, the Gold Hill Duck Dash and the Fourth of July barbecue. "So, I just came to say a great big thank you to you and to the staff here at, city hall," she told the council.
Holmes asked the council to reconsider the city's policy prohibiting inflatables on city property for limited, static advertising uses. She described a four-foot decorative yellow inflatable duck used frequently downtown and said it does not require a generator and is not ridden by children: "No. It's like an inner tube. You know, it's like an inner tube. Blow it up, and it sits there and it ..." The council asked clarifying questions about whether the inflatable posed safety or maintenance issues; staff and councilors said they would consider a limited exception and formalize any change in policy later if needed.
Holmes also praised council attendance at community events and staff responsiveness to event needs. The council thanked her for the comments and asked staff to follow up when drafting any change to the inflatable policy.
