New state purchasing leadership emphasizes vendor registration and training

Jay Hauser, the state's new procurement director, introduced himself and said the division will focus on industry engagement and improving procurement timelines. "My name is Jay Hauser. I am the new procurement director and state purchasing agent for the state of Rhode Island," Hauser said.
Meredith Skelly, deputy purchasing agent, walked vendors through procurement vehicles (RFP, request for quote, master price agreements and construction-manager-at-risk) and stressed the importance of registering in Ocean State Procures to receive timely notifications. "When you register as a vendor in there, you're able to select commodity codes and associate them to your account," Skelly said, noting the system posts opportunities and training resources.
Both officials promoted expanded vendor trainings, RFP and prequalification workshops, and outreach events to increase participation in statewide solicitations. They encouraged vendors to keep contact information current and flagged subcontracting opportunities on large construction projects as one route for smaller firms to participate.
