Hillsboro electric superintendent reports underground work, AMI rollout and delayed bucket truck

Todd Helmer, supervisor of the electric department, gave a status update on ongoing and planned infrastructure work. He said crews have installed underground wiring and transformers at new duplex developments and rebuilt the system at Grand Oaks Apartments; the department is also preparing to energize a transformer at a Tabor College science building once wiring is completed.
Helmer said the department assisted with equipment to connect a planned solar farm to city lines, and staff will begin training on an advanced metering infrastructure (AMI) rollout next week. He also told council the large bucket truck the department ordered has been delayed and now is expected to arrive in early 2027. "If the lights are on, it's a good day," Helmer said, summarizing his team's priority to maintain reliable service.
