Michael Bradford, introduced to the Alcoa City Schools Board as the new principal of Alcoa Elementary School, told the board the school’s current Pre‑K through second‑grade enrollment is 578 students and described the school’s priorities for instruction and behavior. “We currently have a total enrollment of 578 kiddos pre k through 2nd grade,” Bradford said, and outlined a set of five core "power" values the school will emphasize, including purposeful instruction and fostering outstanding relationships.
Bradford described a new behavioral blueprint built around three student expectations—"I can control my choices, I can control my actions, and I can control my success"—and said staff will teach, monitor and reward the behavior, including a visitor-facing "tornado tickets" program so guests can recognize students doing the right thing. The principal invited board members to visit and observe the initiatives once school begins.
The board thanked Bradford for his presentation. The Director of Schools closed the item by noting the board looks forward to visiting the school and seeing the programs in place.
