Council considered a request to address newly added transfer-station tipping fees for small residential haulers. Local hauler Cole Lamphere told the council the prior administration's handling left questions about fairness and argued that small haulers were being treated differently than city-collected waste; he said county residents who already pay solid-waste taxes were shouldering additional costs when private haulers were charged.
County solid-waste staff noted the contract with the vendor (Waste Management) is roughly $50 per ton including hauling and that the county has explored other transfer-station options. After discussion, Council member Elliott moved to waive the newly added fees for small residential haulers for the remainder of 2027; the motion was seconded and the transcript records an affirmative vote. The council directed staff to implement the waiver for the stated period.
