RDC forwards Kingsbury PUD ordinance to plan commission, aims to streamline high‑tech development

The La Porte County Redevelopment Commission voted July 22 to petition the plan commission to consider a Kingsbury Industrial Park Planned Unit Development (PUD) ordinance that would set a development roadmap for high‑technology and heavy‑industry projects. The commission moved to forward the ordinance to the plan commission for a hearing next Tuesday; the motion was moved by Mister Carr and seconded by Mister Parkman and the commission voted to carry the motion.
Mister DiMartino said the PUD is intended to give prospective technology or heavy‑industry investors "the knowns" up front so they can make informed decisions without repeated ad hoc zoning requests. He referenced statutory authority during the meeting (stated as "36 7 32 7") and described features the PUD would address, including noise, setbacks, stormwater, development agreements, and potential project labor and local‑hire provisions. Reardon and DiMartino both emphasized that necessary infrastructure improvements would be the developer's responsibility and that the PUD is intended to channel large investments into appropriately zoned areas of the park.
