Selectboard says deferred roadwork and tree trimming drive highway budget jump

During its Jan. 26 special meeting, the Isle La Motte Selectboard identified deferred road maintenance and roadside tree trimming as central factors behind the proposed 14% increase in the Highway Fund. Road Commissioner Robin Martin agreed with the Board that restoration of deferred services is necessary and will raise near-term costs.
Board members emphasized that these are maintenance needs pushed out for several years and therefore will require increased spending to catch up. The Selectboard said it will prepare materials for the informational Town Meeting explaining how deferred work and higher input costs contribute to the requested increases.
