Commissioner says animal shelter nears completion; county health department project close to opening

Commissioner Terry Hirschman told the commission that the new animal shelter is in final closing and that most punch-list items are nearly complete. He thanked the sheriff's office and inmate crews for assistance with cleanup and said crews will remove a front fence to improve appearance.

Hirschman also reported that the health department project is about 98% complete but that a state-requested change order for a drive-under canopy — intended to allow drive-through care during a future pandemic — is holding up a few final items. He said landscaping and exterior panels are finishing, painting is done, and floors are being installed; he estimated the facility would likely open in the first part of July.
