Committee advances new cell-phone, social-media and hazing policies in grouped first readings

The Lincoln School Committee took up several grouped first readings including a transportation policy, a new cell-phone policy (required by recent legislation), a revised code of conduct/social-media policy, and a hazing policy drafted ahead of expected state action.
Committee member (S3) described three of the four policies as new and said the cell-phone policy fulfills a legislative requirement. "So if you look at, FP Transportation, cell phone policy is new, and is in is a requirement to have this in place, based on legislation last year," S3 said. On the social-media policy, the committee discussed expanding language to cover volunteers and affiliated groups; S3 added principals will be asked to develop protocols to be approved by the superintendent.
Members said the hazing policy was written in anticipation of general assembly legislation and represents a best-practice approach to connect hazing guidance with existing bullying and student-behavior rules. The grouped first readings were moved, seconded and advanced in committee; the policies will return for further consideration and final adoption at later meetings.
