Commissioners discussed a proposal to run a trolley-style shuttle to move visitors between hotels, downtown restaurants and event venues. A county contact told the board Southern Indiana Transit could provide vehicles and drivers and proposed a fee-based model in which the county would pay a per-day charge to the operator while riders pay a small fare. "The county has agreed to pay $6,000 to him plus anybody riding pays $2 per trip," one commissioner said as the board discussed how the service might be structured.
Members said they would like the transit provider to meet with commissioners and provide a ballpark estimate for operating costs, including potential options for electric vehicles and frequency. The commission asked staff to arrange a meeting so members can consider cost-sharing, routes and a business model before any financial commitment is finalized.
