Township staff updates commissioners on Aqua/PA American consolidation filing with PUC

Township counsel/staff provided an update on the pending corporate consolidation application filed with the Pennsylvania Public Utility Commission involving Aqua and PA American Water. Staff explained the companies are publicly regulated utilities that must remain separate for service and rate purposes under existing PUC rules and that the consolidation process has advanced through written testimony to an administrative-law hearing process.
Staff said the township is represented in the docket by intervening parties and Montgomery County and that settlement discussions are occurring among parties. The staff recommendation was that there is currently nothing for Upper Moreland to do beyond monitoring; if specific rate or service impacts arise, staff will notify the board.
