The Churchill County School District board voted unanimously to approve Resolution 26‑02 in support of Invest 2027, a legislative request package the superintendent described as focused primarily on funding and clarifying statutory language. Superintendent Ben Cooper told trustees the document asks, among other things, that the base per‑pupil amount be indexed to inflation, that special‑education costs be better funded, and that universal pre‑K be fully funded so districts do not hire and fire pre‑K teachers year to year.
Cooper also flagged concerns with parts of SB 460 that he said read like district‑takeover language; he described the board's preferred approach as replacing takeover wording with language that emphasizes technical assistance. "It's what we're calling the hold harmless policy," he said, urging a unified local approach with other districts and associations. The resolution passed with a unanimous voice vote.
Trustees did not amend the text at the meeting and asked staff to proceed with outreach as part of the district's advocacy. The board's action formalizes the district's legislative priorities ahead of the next state session.
