Dr. Wendy Anderson, an environmental scientist and elected supervisor on the Volusia Soil and Water Conservation District board, told the commission that lands acquired through Volusia Forever must satisfy 10 of 19 criteria assessing ecological value, hydrologic connections, development risk and connectivity. She noted that in 2020, 75.6% of Volusia County voters approved continuing funding for Volusia Forever for the next 20 years and urged the city to support the program and attend the county meeting where proposed modifications would be considered.
Commissioners discussed whether to draft a resolution or a signed letter and staff committed to prepare a letter with commission signatures for the county council meeting. A motion to direct staff to draft the letter of support passed on a voice vote.
