Tim Martel honored with Sterling Heights 'Nice Neighbor' award

Councilwoman Maria Schmidt presented the Nice Neighbor Award to Tim Martel in recognition of his assistance to a nearby widowed neighbor who speaks limited English. Schmidt recounted that Martel arranged roofing repairs, connected the neighbor to a Spanish-speaking representative and provided lawn and sidewalk care.
"On behalf of the mayor and city council, we appreciate you and the neighbor in our community and you are what makes Sterling Heights a great place to live," Schmidt said. Martel, who identified himself as a high-school teacher, thanked the council and said helping neighbors was part of his philosophy: "So I appreciate you all. I appreciate your time today and thank you so much for the recognition."
