A committee member raised concerns that demolition could damage a historic mural; staff reported developers plan to preserve the artwork digitally and to display that digital preservation in the new building's lobby.
"It would be too difficult, obviously, to preserve [the mural] physically," the Clerk said, adding that the plan is to "preserve it in digital format and create a digital display that will be kept in the lobby of the new building." Committee members suggested partnering with students in multimedia design to create the digital record or exhibit.
Members asked staff to document the preservation plan and to note the arrangement in the project record so the mural’s imagery is retained for public access even if the original cannot be removed intact.
