The Board of Finance voted on July 21 to authorize the mayor to enter into settlement agreements and approve proposed stipulations in three pending tax-assessment suits against the City of Torrington. The cases named in the executive session motion were Connecticut CVS Pharmacy LLC v. City of Torrington (docket HHB-CV-25-6098270-S), Target Corporation v. City of Torrington (docket HHB-CV-25-6098268-S) and SL Torrington LLC and GG Torrington LLC v. City of Torrington (docket HHB-CV-25-6097410-S), all in New Britain Superior Court.
The Chair moved the settlement authorizations in open session after executive session; motions were moved, seconded and approved by voice vote for each case. Several members publicly thanked tax-assessor staff and the city’s legal team for efforts to resolve complex assessment issues, with the Chair noting that avoiding court is generally preferable for taxpayers.
