Scott County libraries upgraded from 1Gbps to 10Gbps using federal E‑Rate funds, officials say

Library staff reported a systemwide internet upgrade that increased branch bandwidth from 1 Gbps to 10 Gbps and said federal E‑Rate funding covered a substantial portion of the project. "Our Internet was at 1 gigabyte in our libraries, and it went up to 10," a staff member said, noting the project completed at the end of June and that about two‑thirds of the cost came from federal E‑Rate dollars.
County IT staff noted the equipment changes also help integrate library buildings into the county fiber ring and benefit broader county services, including automated traffic management and dispatch systems. The library said reimbursement through E‑Rate will arrive in the fall and that the upgrade would have taken many years to accomplish without the grant funding.
