Scott County says Read Mobile visits up 53% as staff expand daily stops and checkout capability

Scott County Library Director Jennifer Schultz told the county board the Read Mobile’s outreach increased substantially this summer, and staff have shifted the model so children can check out books at every visit. "As Tia mentioned, we're up about just this summer, about 53% of our visits," Schultz said, describing a broadened schedule that takes the Read Mobile to multiple sites most days.
Schultz described multiple community events where the Read Mobile has appeared, including parades and festivals, and said staff track circulation and returns; collection staff are monitoring how many mobile books return and will report end-of-summer data. She also noted the vehicle entered service around 2017–2018 and is in good condition with scheduled maintenance and a long replacement horizon.
Staff emphasized the Read Mobile’s role in serving underserved neighborhoods and school-based screening visits, and described increased partnership activity to put books and programming directly into communities rather than relying on patrons to visit branches.
