Rochelle Park moves dispatch to Bergen County PSOC; officials say mapping and training will preserve response capability

Rochelle Park is preparing to shift local 911 dispatching to the Bergen County Public Safety Operations Center as the township and police command staff complete vendor work, cross‑training and CAD mapping uploads.
Chief Dean Pinto told the Township Committee on July 22 that the department has met repeatedly with county and vendor staff, compiled policy binders the county requested and will upload local place nicknames into the county CAD so call‑takers can find familiar locations. "For the dispatching, absolutely," Pinto said when asked whether the county PSOC can safely dispatch for Rochelle Park.
Committee members pressed the chief on officer safety, radio coverage dead spots and redundancy. Pinto acknowledged known dead spots on the legacy radio system and said the county mapping and new radios should address those issues: "One of the reasons [the county] suggested Motorola radios was because we have some known dead spots here…" He also described planned cross‑training and county access to live camera feeds at the police lobby.
Administrator Samantha Carpio said the township remains on schedule for the transition and will post the county PowerPoint presentation on the township website when available. Several council members asked for additional briefings and site visits; Pinto said he would arrange further demonstrations once equipment is in place.
The committee did not take any final policy votes on the PSOC transition during the meeting; multiple resolutions related to vendor activity and equipment funding appeared on the consent agenda for separate action.
