"Some of the concerns...included public health risks, environmental health risks by large scale data centers. There were also concerns about energy consumption and climate impacts, also concerns about the health and noise impacts," staff said in summary. Guest council member William Wandos pointed to tax-policy differences used elsewhere, saying data centers currently pay the same property tax rate as single-family homes and that other localities have pursued different approaches. Members said those regional comparisons and public testimony helped shape the decision to adopt an 18-month pause while the county develops guardrails.
