The board read its packet of proposed goals — including programming expansion for EL students, wellness initiatives, and reinforcing habits of character — and discussed whether to take action now or to table for January. Several board members recommended more time to review and to seek staff input.
A resident and board member raised concerns about children's exposure to social media and screen time outside school. "If it is hurting children's mental health, then maybe we can take a look about this age level and what messages we're sending out," the resident said. Board members agreed the topic requires more study; one member suggested bringing policy examples and staff feedback before adopting standards.
After discussion the chair moved to table the board-goals review until the January meeting to allow additional review and staff consultation; the motion was seconded and carried.
