Superintendent Emily explained next steps: the Board of Selectmen will hold a public hearing (scheduled for Jan. 2, time to be confirmed) and then a special town meeting on Jan. 16 when voters will decide whether to give the school board authority to negotiate with other districts. "We can't negotiate terms with other school districts until we're given the authority to negotiate," Emily said.
Board members discussed logistics and encouraged attendance at both the public hearing and the town meeting. One participant asked about differences between the public hearing and town meeting; Emily explained the hearing is for information and questions, and the town meeting is where voters vote on giving negotiation authority.
