Staff: standing water at Wawa site is temporary; final grading and detention basin will prevent flooding

Councilors raised concerns about standing water and mosquitoes at the Wawa construction site; staff said the current surface is intentionally lower than the final grade and will be raised as construction progresses.
"The way that the site looks right now is actually probably a foot lower than what the final gradings will be," the staff member said, explaining that gravel, base courses and asphalt will come after aprons and that the site is designed to drain to the planned detention basin. A council member said the standing water was attracting mosquitoes and asked that staff ensure proper drainage; staff responded that existing dry wells and storage capacity will accommodate the interim conditions until the site is finished.
Staff indicated the site has moved from the initial contractor to phase two and that paving and stall work should follow once the building contractor takes over.
