One-day school closure after threat deemed not credible, superintendent says

Superintendent Emily told the West Bath School Board that a national-tip line prompted a school closure earlier in the week while local authorities investigated a reported threat of violence.
"It didn't name a particular school...and it came through the national hotline," Emily said, explaining that police traced the call "to a bathroom" and ultimately determined it "was determined not to be credible." She added the call involved a juvenile and the district cannot disclose identifying details.
Emily said the decision to close aimed to let police focus on the investigation rather than managing students during a potential incident. She also emphasized that the district's own staff and students were not connected to the call: "it did not come from anyone associated with RSU 1 or West Bath schools," she said, citing police guidance.
Board members thanked local first responders for their handling of the investigation. The superintendent said the incident is being handled by law enforcement and the district will follow police guidance about what can be shared with the public.
