Committee advances bill raising illegal-dumping fines, including $75,000 maximum

Sen. Mumford introduced SB 28-19 to increase fines for illegal dumping across tiers and to raise the possible maximum penalty. "Senate bill 28 19 increases the penalties for illegal dumping. It goes from, the $500 minimum fine to I'm sorry. The $100 minimum fine to 500, and then the $1,000 amount goes to 1,500, And then from 500 to 1000, and then the maximum will be 75,000," Sen. Mumford said.
Committee members discussed whether the measure is similar to prior proposals and moved the bill forward with a do-pass recommendation. The sponsor said the change aims to strengthen enforcement where local governments have struggled to curb illegal dumping.
