Resident warns Ferguson Township fire station was removed from CIP, urges restoration

Laura Genini, a Ferguson Township resident, told the board during public comment that documents she reviewed show the proposed Ferguson Township fire station has been removed from the township’s capital improvement plan and called for clearer institutional memory and long-range planning. "It's no longer in the CIP," she said, adding that a new station would likely cost "probably let's call it $6,000,000 at this point." Genini also noted regional agreements treat fire stations as shared assets and urged the board not to erase the item from future CIP lists so future supervisors can see it.

Genini pushed the board to consider volunteer travel-time studies when siting a station, saying prior analyses pointed to West Whitehall Road between West College Ave and Plainfield Road as the preferred location for volunteer response times. She asked the board to use motions and public dialogue rather than simply dropping critical public-safety projects from long-range plans. The chair acknowledged the comment and the board moved on to other agenda items; no formal direction or vote on the CIP change was recorded during the meeting.
