Councilmember (speaker 3) said McPherson, Kansas, has an ordinance that sets rules and a fee structure for short-term rentals and that the city could use that model to generate revenue from visitors. "They have an ordinance in place for Airbnb, and short term rentals where they have the rules and regulations for those as well as a fee structure," the councilmember said, noting that such fees can offset costs from visitors.
The mayor asked that any drafted ordinance be reviewed by the city attorney before council consideration. The council did not take further action at the meeting beyond authorizing the research and potential legal review.
