The Township Council voted unanimously on Sept. 9 to introduce Ordinance 2025-17, which would prohibit commercial amenity rental platforms in residential zones. The motion for first reading passed on a 5-0 roll call.
During the public portion, Jen Reppert said she opposes Ordinance 2025-17 because she believes it "opens the door to allowing the government to have more control over an individual’s property rights" and asked what safeguards are in place after problems that arose during the Carli Lloyd event. Council responded that public comment is limited to second readings under state law (cited in the meeting as N.J. Statute 40:41A-101) and that legal guidance around the earlier event had been revisited; Mr. Lyon said the township attorney at that time was asked to step down and council is attentive to bid thresholds and avoiding bid splitting.
The ordinance was introduced with a unanimous vote; it will return for a second reading when the public will have an opportunity to comment formally. The ordinance text and any implementing regulations were not discussed in detail at this meeting.
