Council adopts ordinance to observe Juneteenth on June 19 beginning 2027

The Murray City Council adopted an ordinance amending section 2.62.120 of the municipal code so that the city will observe Juneteenth on June 19 rather than on the Monday observed under the city's earlier practice. Robin Colton told the council that House Bill 309, passed during the 2026 legislative session, changed the state's observance and that aligning the city with the state and federal practice would begin in 2027.
"They have since corrected it, passed house bill 309 this year," Colton said, explaining the technical reason for the amendment. The motion to adopt the ordinance passed unanimously on roll call.
