Staff presented Resolution 2025-23R to amend the city's comprehensive fee schedule to (1) set the municipal candidate filing fee at $50 and authorize a $50 fee for late campaign financial statement disclosures (allowed by state statute but not previously on the city fee schedule), and (2) adjust several golf driving-range token prices in light of the new TrackMan driving-range system. Staff noted peer city comparisons and the trade-offs between discouraging frivolous filings and not imposing burdens on legitimate candidates.
Council members discussed whether the fee might discourage legitimate candidates, the county's role in disqualification for late filings, and the possibility of a higher mayoral filing fee; after debate the council moved, seconded and approved the resolution (recorded votes: ayes and one abstention). Staff will implement the fee-schedule amendments and update the clerk's procedures for candidate filings and disclosures.
