Council hires Gilbert & Stewart for 2026 audit; asks firm to deliver reports earlier if possible
Summary
Council approved an engagement letter with Gilbert & Stewart for the FY25–26 audit but urged the firm to move up the draft-report date (firm proposed 12/31/2026) so the audit committee and council can review statements before they go to the state auditor.

After completing two RFPs, city finance staff recommended contracting with Gilbert & Stewart for the FY25–26 external audit. Peter Brown said the engagement cost did not increase from the previous contract and that the firm would begin work in the fall.
Several council members said they wanted the audit report earlier than the firm's draft date of Dec. 31, 2026 so the council and the audit committee have time to review the financial statements before submission to the state auditor. One council member said, "December 15 is acceptable, but I would like to see it earlier," and others suggested trying for December 1 if possible. Brown said he would request an earlier due date from the firm.
The council approved the engagement letter as presented and asked staff to negotiate an earlier report deadline so the audit committee and council can complete their review before the state filing deadline.
