Open Streets Lowell to return Oct. 3 with expanded hours and a dedicated performance area

Ethan Yang, chair of DIY Lowell, told the commission that Open Streets Lowell will return on Oct. 3, 2026 with expanded hours (noon to 5 p.m.) and a dedicated performance area requiring an amplified-sound permit. "We had a great success last year with over 1000 participants," he said, and described plans to broaden downtown activation.
Yang said the event is volunteer-run and community-powered; commissioners approved the sound permit by voice vote. The commission noted organizers must comply with sound and public-safety conditions when operating in the downtown corridor.
