License commission approves permits for several downtown events and vendor stands

Applicants included Carrie Velasquez of Sweet Pig Press seeking a one-day license for Sip and Scribe at Hive Public Market on Aug. 8, Jay Eboer for a family gathering at the Hellenic American Academy July 31 ug. 2 (expected 75—00 guests), and Steve Sievers for four Arts League receptions later this year. Carrie Velasquez said the calligraphy workshop will run 1:00 to 2:30 p.m. and will be offered to market customers; the commission approved her request by voice vote.
Commissioners moved as a group through several sidewalk-stand and one-day alcohol requests intended to support vendors during the Lowell Folk Festival and other downtown activations. Kevin Motion told the commission he planned only a small tent and chairs for Fuse Bistro nd staff said sidewalks would remain passable; his permit for expanded sidewalk seating during the Folk Festival was approved. Pina Amato of the Coffee Mill Emporium described selling lemonade, slush and coffees from a tent and received approval for a sidewalk stand. Ankit Kumar of Total Wireless said he would distribute free giveaways and would not sell goods; that sidewalk-stand permit was approved.
Commissioners consistently moved and seconded approvals (motions were often made by Commissioner Krieger and seconded by Commissioner Underwood) and conducted voice votes. The meeting packet and TIPS/CHIP certifications were reported filed for events that will serve alcohol.
