The Leawood Board of Zoning Appeals voted to allow a 6‑foot wood privacy fence to remain at 9424 Winonga Road after staff reported the contractor replaced the fence without including it on a remodel permit. Ron, the city staff member who presented the report, told the board the replacement happened during interior remodel work and was not added to the scope of the permit.
Homeowner Susie Sander told the board she purchased the home in January and that the fence was there when she bought the property. "I purchased my home in January, and I received a notice that evidently my fence was not the correct height," Sander said. No members of the public spoke in opposition. A motion to approve the fence‑height exception under the Land Development Ordinance was offered and seconded; the chair called for voice votes and declared the motion passed. Sander will receive written notification of the board's decision.
The board’s action was procedural and limited to the LDO height exception; staff indicated no neighbor complaints had been received and that the city will follow up in writing.
