Fire Chief Todd Byrne presented the Fremont Fire Department's 2025 annual report and told the council the department handled 4,398 calls last year, a 7.6% increase from the previous year and averaging a little over 12 runs per day. Byrne said EMS was the majority of the workload: 4,024 medical calls (an 8.43% increase), 4,102 patient contacts, and an average patient age of 61.14 years — a sign of an aging patient population. "The 2025 was our busiest year yet," Byrne said.
Byrne reviewed top incident types (falls, medical transports, traffic accidents), described multi-agency response to the Horizon Biofuel explosion (about 30 agencies assisted), and outlined training (6,269 documented hours, +45%) and equipment updates (a new ambulance arriving soon and a new engine expected by May–June). Council members discussed call geography and the potential need for satellite EMS coverage in northern parts of town; Byrne said current response times meet some benchmarks but turnout times lag and that staff will present station renderings in upcoming meetings.
