Board approves land exchange with Hillsborough County for South Hillsborough wellfield

The Tampa Bay Water board on July 20 approved an interlocal land-exchange with Hillsborough County to secure property rights needed for the South Hillsborough Wellfield. Maribel Medina, Planning and Projects Director, told the board the exchange would provide roughly 5 acres of easements in the Stacy R. White Nature Preserve and about 4.7 acres within a water-resources utility corridor to support collector mains, access and monitoring facilities. "Tampa Bay Water will receive about 5 acres of easements within the Stacy R White Nature Preserve at no cost as part of the land exchange," Medina said.
Medina said the corridor easements and associated closing costs are about $66,000. Construction of the full wellfield at buildout will include eight production wells (one already constructed), roughly four miles of collector main, and metering and treatment facilities that will tie into Hillsborough County’s future drinking-water infrastructure. The board recorded a motion (mover: Commissioner Eggers; second: Commissioner Wastel) to approve the interlocal agreement and voted unanimously to adopt it. Hillsborough County staff is expected to present the same agreement to the Hillsborough County Board of County Commissioners in August.
