"Our total budget request is 4,700,000," Lee said.
Lee explained that a portion of licensing fees are statutorily dedicated to workforce development and that the board plans to increase grant authority by 4.35% to meet rising demand; she also said the board uses some licensing fees to support construction education programs and build Mississippi workforce partnerships. The board reported an operating cash balance of about $3.3 million; committee members questioned whether the agency could do more to return funds to members or expand services rather than hold large balances. Lee said planned grant disbursements in April will reduce the special fund and that the board aims to balance reserve needs with its statutory obligations.
