Committee hears federal grant updates; approves literacy materials and Newsela renewal

"So out of Title 2 ... we have a few activities planned," Dr. Scarpati said, summarizing the grants.
Under the operating budget the committee approved a districtwide purchase of SIPs literacy materials and professional development for tier‑3 intensive intervention at a cost not to exceed $43,200 to outfit nine elementary schools; the motion passed on a voice vote. The board also moved to renew Newsela for high-school instruction; finance staff corrected a transcription/packet typo during the meeting and read a corrected amount before the vote. The administration said funding for Newsela will be charged to the operating budget under curriculum.
Administrators emphasized that the Title II items were being presented for information as the state must approve the year's consolidated grant activities before implementation.
