Trustees say smaller districts would need creative staffing; shared services cited as a reason to stay together
Summary
Trustees listed multiple districtwide positions and services that currently save costs and said smaller new districts would likely combine roles (0.5 superintendent/principal) or share maintenance and HVAC to maintain services while controlling costs.

Tyler Harrington, a trustee, outlined positions the current consolidated district shares: superintendent, comptroller, HR director, federal programs director, special education director, accounts payable, technical director and food service. “We, share, like, all the… the CV, Elk City, Grangeville schools all share a superintendent, a comptroller, an HR director, a federal programs director, special education director, accounts payable person, a technical director, and food service,” he said.
Harrington and Stacy described how smaller districts often combine positions or share services to save money. Harrington cited examples from other local districts: Cottonwood, Craigmont and Nez Perce use 0.5 superintendent/0.5 principal arrangements; Cul De Sac combines comptroller, HR and accounts payable duties. The trustees suggested HVAC and maintenance could be shared regionally to keep operational costs down.
The trustees framed shared services as a key counterweight to local control: while deconsolidation could increase local representation and pride, it would likely require inventive staffing and partnerships to preserve services affordably.
