Trustees outline deconsolidation plan, possible May ballot for Mountain View School District

Tyler Harrington, a trustee of the Mountain View School District, said trustees presented an overview of a proposed deconsolidation so residents could be educated before any vote. “We wanted to come to you to, talk through this deconsolidation process,” he said.
Harrington told residents the board is developing a plan that, if approved by the local board, would be sent to the state board for review and — pending state approval — could be placed on a ballot. He said the trustees’ goal is to have the question on the ballot in May and stressed that the change would require approval by voters across the whole district, not just in a portion. “In order for that to pass, this it goes to the voters… It would have to pass as a whole in the entire district,” Harrington said.
The trustees asked residents to attend upcoming public hearings and to consult the district website for maps, population and property-value data that the trustees said would inform any final lines. “You probably get this on a deeper level if you come to one of our hearings,” Harrington said. The trustees emphasized that deconsolidation is optional: “It’s not forced on anybody,” he added.
The meeting closed with a reminder that the board is facilitating the process and will present more detailed hearings on Oct. 22 in Elk City and Oct. 23 at CV High School so residents can review maps and ask questions.
