Luke Duffield told the court he brings business and board experience to the Russellville School Board and emphasized fiscal oversight, recruitment and collaboration with the superintendent. Duffield described a family business background and service on local boards, and said his undergraduate training in accounting and economics and experience handling large budgets would help the district: "I think that would be something at school that I would be able to bring to that from an oversight view... bonding, HR, insurance."
When asked about potential conflicts of interest from his business activities, Duffield said he would recuse himself when appropriate and that most support for the superintendent should be handled collectively by the board. He also suggested bringing external resources to educate the board about the 'learns act' and recruitment strategies to stabilize enrollment. The quorum court confirmed his appointment by roll-call and adopted a resolution formalizing the appointment.
